Making Progress on Our Goals!
In August, at the beginning of the season, our social media audience was relatively small. We had amassed less than 300 followers on Instagram, and only a handful of subscribers on YouTube. Hoping to spread awareness of STEM Racing to more people, our enterprise team set some social media goals. But without a concrete estimate of how easy or difficult it would be for us to increase our audience, we were fairly reserved with our objectives. Originally, we hoped to reach at least 500 Instagram followers and 50 YouTube subscribers by the time the Regional Finals came around in December.
As the months passed, we were pleasantly surprised to see that we were on track to surpass our goals. Once we started posting consistently and found what worked for us, support poured in, and we gained dozens of followers each week. By Regionals, we had over 1000 followers on Instagram, and had become the most-followed STEM Racing team in the U.S., a feat that still seems unreal to us. The amount of growth we showcased in only 4-5 months felt truly rewarding. Our development on YouTube was also remarkable, as we accumulated around 100 subscribers and about 15,000 total views. Our most “viral” video even had almost 4000 views!
We realize these numbers are still extremely small compared to those of popular content creators out there. But for a small, student-run STEM Racing team like us, these numbers are something to be proud of. They reflect the amount of time we’ve spent brainstorming, filming, and painstakingly editing each reel and video, and we couldn’t be more thankful for each and every one of our followers.
Our next post will focus on the new goals we have made in preparation for the National Finals, so keep an eye on our blog! 👀
